David Bush is a quantitative trader and asset manager with three decades of experience in global financial markets. As the champion of BattleFin’s “Sharpe Ratio Shootout”—prevailing over 3,200 international competitors from more than forty countries—and winner of the National Association of Active Investment Managers’ (NAAIM) 2016 “Shark Tank” Strategy Competition, David brings proven expertise in systematic trading strategy development.
David founded quantitative asset management firm Alphatative in 2011 where he is the Portfolio Manager. Previously, as founder and principal of Bush Market Analysis Corp (2002-2010), he led a team of eight professionals providing advanced trading education across the United States and United Kingdom.
An accomplished musician who spent his early years performing with Grammy-winning and nominated artists and producers, David credits the discipline of music for his affinity and passion for financial market patterns as both fields share mathematical properties, switch between dominant and subordinate regimes, and manifest emotion in rhythm.
David’s expertise and insights have been featured in leading financial publications and podcasts including Bloomberg Personal Finance, TABB Group’s QuantFORUM, Traders Magazine and Hedge Fund Alert. He currently serves as a strategic advisor to NAAIM’s Board of Directors and chairs the organization’s Investment Committee, overseeing the association’s investments. Additionally, he authors the REKTelligence Report on Substack, a research publication providing statistical analysis and quantitative insights on cryptocurrency markets.
A graduate of the New School for Social Research with a B.F.A. in Jazz and Contemporary Music, with additional studies at Parsons School of Design and the Mannes Conservatory, David brings a combination of mathematical rigor, creative problem-solving, and systematic thinking to quantitative finance education and strategy development.
